PLAYOFFS AT LAST

OAKLAND @ MINNESOTA

Barry Zito vs Johan Santana

The battle of the leftys.

Zito is 1-0 vs Minnesota this season. Santana hasn’t lost in the Metrodome since August 2005, going 16-0 during that period.Having said that Santana is also 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in 4 post season at the the Dome.If can Oakland can get an early lead they make rattle the Twins who have been on quite a roll lately. An early lead may also take the crowd out of the game. No doubt about it the Metrodome will be jumping today.

Predicition Oakland wins Game 1 in close one.

Cardinals @ Padres

Chris Carpenter Vs Jake Peavy

Carpenter was 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA last postseason.

St.Louis as a team has been struggling going 3-7 in their last 10 regular season games. They backed into the playoffs when Atlanta beat Houston on the last day of the season. On the other hand San Diego didn’t fold going 8-2 in their last 10 games, holding off the Dodgers to take NL WEST crown.Despite all of this i still think the Cardinals are a much team than the Padres. These 2 teams appear to be pretty even in the pitching department. However it will be Albert Pujols who will be the difference maker in this series. Look for Pujols to come through big  time and send Cards back to the NLCS.

Can you say THREE STRAIGHT !

1981 All Over Again

Prediction: 2006 World Series Yankees – Dodgers

Yankees are class of AL

Dodgers playing well at just the right time.

Rematch of 1981 World Series, but result will be different.

Remember where you heard it.

HERE’S TO YOU MR. ROBINSON

Robinson cano went 1 for 3 last night. His only hit was an impressive 2 run homer in the 6th. Cano’s average sits at .343 2nd only the Twins Joe Maur.

The Yanks pounded out 18 hits on their way to an easy 16-5 win over the Orioles.

Chein Ming Wang gets 19th win of the season. Based on this stat alone he should receive ample consideration for the Cy Young.

Baltimore starter Kris Benson went only 2 2/3 innings allowing 8 earned runs for the loss. This loss capped off a disappointing season for the former Met. Benson was in the news a lot last season, more because of his colorful wife Anna than because of any pitching accomplishments. Anna Benson you remember her, the former exotic dancer who turned into a self-proclaimed gold digger. Her website is still up and running. If your so inclined you can check it out at www.annabenson.net.

HIGHLIGHTS

BOTTOM 2-Giambi hits 2 run homer, to where else right field.

BOTTOM 3-Abreu hits towering solo blast to centre. Posada caps off the inning with a 3 run round tripper.

BOTTOM 4-Damon homers to lead off inning. Giambi was at it again with a 2 run single. Giambi himself came around to score on Posad’s ground ball.

BOTTOM 6- Robbie Cano nails a 2 run shot, his 15th of the season.

NUTSHELL

Although Wang did get his 19th victory, I felt he labored in this game. He threw a lot more pitches than he is accustomed to.Wang is known for economical outings. He also seem to have a hard time finding the strike, after the Yankees had given him a big lead. Be that as it may, Wang should be sharp and ready when it really counts. This young kid has great all year, no doubt about that. Now with the spotlight directly on him and the eyes of the baseball world watching, it’s his time to really shine.

Wang starts game 1 of the ALDS on Tuesday.

Jason Giambi what can you about this guy. It wasn’t that long ago that Yankees had given up on him. What has Jason done this year, nothing much, just 37 homers homers 113 RBIs thats all. This gutsy guy has taken 3 cortisone shots in the last month alone just so could stay in lineup. Giambi will be key to Yankees playoff success.

Abreu solid as usual. AROD seems to found his rythumn, but we knew he would didn’t we?

BOBBY ABREU stars in THE RETURN OF GODZILLA

Tampa Bay vs New York       September 13, 2006

            Yankee Stadium    Bronx New York

Bobby Abreu had a career game last night at Yankee Stadium.

Abreu went 2 for 3 with 7 RBIS, 6 of witch came in the first inning. This overshadowed Hideki Matsui’s return to the Yankee lineup. Matsui who had been on the DL since May 11th, had a triumphant return going 4 for 4 at the plate. The Yankees would get all the runs they would in the first inning. New York sent 13 men to the plate, scored 9 runs had 7 hits and stole 2 bases all in the 1st. DRay starter Tim Corcoran lasted only 1/3 of an inning.

HIGHLIGHTS

BOTTOM 1

    – Abreu hits 3 run homer

-Matsui hits bloop single in first at bat

    – Abreu clears bases with 3 run double

TOP 2

    – Abreu makes sliding catch off Ty Wiggington

BOTTOM 3

    – Matsui singles to right, his second hit in a row

    – Delmon Young makes great catch at the wall, and shows off his cannon like arm.

TOP 9

    – Tampa Bay puts together 4 run inning, too little, too late however.

Starting pitcher Mike Mussina cruises to the victory. He improves his record to 14 and 6. On this night he would go 61/3 innings, allow 5 hits, 0 ER, and struck out 5.

NUTSHELL

    – Yankees kickoff 7 game homestand with 12-4 victory.

    – Derek Jeter extends 21 game hitting streak. No offical at bats this night, as he walked 3 times and was hit by a pitch.

    – Mussina able to stay focused, as he gets big time run support.

-Same old story for Tampa Bay. Their horrible pitching continues, this will have them in  Al East basement for some time to come. Tampa does have talent, Baldelli, Crawford, and Delmon Young, but their pitching staff needs a complete overhaul and soon.

    – Yankees appear to be firing on all cylinders at just the right time.
